Local pooch going for Best in Show

A local dog breeder has high hopes for winning Best in Show at one of the world’s leading dog shows.
Donna Gottdenker, of Claircreek Portuguese Water Dogs from Mapleton, says while she’s hoping three-year old Olivia will fetch the Blue Ribbon at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York, she’s just happy to be showing there.
Gottdenker says today’s competition starts with the bench showing and grooming this afternoon, and the coveted Best In Show title will be awarded tonight.
Gottdenker says everyone asks her what she really thinks Olivia’s chances are in a field of almost 2,600 dogs.
She says Olivia has had a remarkable career for a three year old dog, and while she wouldn’t go to the Westminster show if she didn’t think Olivia could win, she adds her only objective is that her prize-winning dog “show her little heart out.”
