Fire on Ice

A different sort of gala for a different sort of sports team: that’s what the “Fire on Ice” Dinner Gala can be summed up as.

The event is taking place in the Kitchener City Hall Rotunda tonight at 6 p.m., to help raise money for the Kitchener Fire Rangers Hockey Team which is made up of local fire fighters and police officers.

The team is preparing for the 2011 World Police & Fire Games, in New York City.

“The menu has been prepared by local fire fighters so you know you’ll get some good food at the event,” said the Assistant Coach, Cam Linwood.

The Kitchener Rangers OHL team will be on hand to act as celebrity table service for the evening. The audience will be able to interact with both teams and get to know the players.

The biennially held games, which the team is trying to get to this September was originally slated for June. The event was delayed to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of September 11.

The Kitchener Rangers Head Coach and General Manager, Steve Spott, will be the special guest speaker for the evening. An auction will also be held during the event, with all proceeds going towards the Fire Rangers.

Tickets are on sale at the Kitchener Fire Headquarters. It’s $50 for adults and $25 for children 16 and under. The event is family-friendly.
