Big fog, big problems

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about this morning’s fog.

Meteorologist Jim Prime tells 570 News it’s a bad patch of fog, but a very small one, localized entirely over the Kitchener area.

Prime says the fog will last until about noon.

Prime says visibility at the Region of Waterloo International Airport was at zero statute miles at 9:30 a.m. today.

Chris Wood, General Manager at the Region of Waterloo International Airport, tells 570 News the airport will be at a standstill until they get at least a half-mile of visibility.

Wood says the morning fog cancelled two outbound flights today, leaving some 25 passengers in the airport sipping coffee patiently.

Wood hopes the fog will be cleared enough to allow the 11:40 from Ottawa to land.
