Sado-sexual murderer and multiple rapist Colonel Russell Williams is now among the ranks of the worst criminals Canada has ever known.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Robert Scott has told a Belleville court the depths of the depravity demonstrated by Williams has no equal.
Scott sentenced the former commander of C-F-B Trenton to two concurrent life sentences with no possibility of parole for 25 years.
He’s in Kingston penitentiary, where he’ll likely spend his sentence on the range with the likes of schoolgirl killer Paul Bernardo.
A so-called “healing event” will be held today in Belleville to help the community get over the shocking crimes of Russell Williams.
The gathering is organized by Belleville resident Hazel Lloyst, who says people in the community need a way to start healing.
Lloyst also says the event will also be a chance for Belleville-area residents to show their support for the victims’ relatives.
Some legal experts say graphic videos and photos documenting the murders and rapes committed by Colonel Russell Williams should not be destroyed.
Prosecutors plan to demolish the S-U-V Williams used to transport a bound and gagged Jessica Lloyd to his cottage, where he raped and killed her.
But they plan to wait a while before talking about whether to destroy the videos and photos in the Williams case.
John Rosen, who defended Paul Bernardo, is warning the evidence may be needed to ensure Williams isn’t set free one day.
Osgoode Hall law school professor James Morton says 25 years from now, the videos could persuade the parole board to keep Williams in prison or refute an appeal based on an insanity defence.
Detective Inspector Chris Nicholas, the lead investigator in the case, has vowed the videos will never been seen by anyone as long as his lives.
