BB deadline extended

India is backing down on its’ threat to ban Research In Motion’s BlackBerry services.

The fight is over access to encrypted data.

proposals to give security agencies greater access to corporate e-mail and instant messaging.

The deadline has been extended to 60 days.

RIM’s strong data encryption is beloved by corporate customers eager to guard secrets, but some Middle Eastern and Asian governments worry it could be used by militants to avoid detection.
