A truck crash near Wellesley saw the truck driver walk out of his smashed cab, but about a hundred chickens the truck was carrying weren’t so lucky.
Crews were still cleaning up the scene of the crash this morning on Hutchison Road at the Wilmot-Easthope Line.
Regional Police tell 570 News the crash happened around 10:46 p.m. yesterday.
Work crews at the scene tell 570 News ever since then, they have not only been running around the nearby fields and yards catching the surviving chickens, but gathering up the ones that were killed.
They made a pile of between 100 and 150 dead animals, piled up under a stop sign.
A work crew arrived around 7:15 and literally tossed all the dead animals into the back of a new truck.
The truck driver reportedly walked out of the cab, and has since been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The cab of the truck was almost completely caved in after striking a hydro pole, which had to be replaced.
Regional Police believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, but alcohol was not.
Police say charges are pending and the investigation continues.
There’s no estimate on when the roadway will re-open.
A supervisor from Maple Lodge at the scene declined to make a comment.
