Lightning strike causes blaze

Officials with Waterloo Fire Rescue have confirmed lightning was the cause of a house fire from early Monday morning.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:00am Monday at a home on Woolwich Street in Waterloo.

The lightning struck the aluminum soffit of the house, which ignited and spread through the roof.

Damage is estimated at $300,000 dollars.

No one was hurt in the blaze.

The Red Cross was called in at the time to provide temporary accommodations for two people who live in the home.
