Ground has been broken on the latest project at the Region of Waterloo International Airport.
Local dignitaries were on hand this morning as the ceremony was held marking the start of launch work on the Combined Airport/Fleet Maintenance and Firehall Services Facility.
Supporters say the facility is needed as ridership at the airport continues to grow.
It will meet precision landing regulations, and accommodate on-site emergency vehicles.
The cost of the facility is $10.8-million with the federal and provincial governments picking up $4.7-million of the tab and the region covering the rest.
