July 1st is Canada Day and that means celebrations from one end of the region to the other.
For some, it will be their first Canada Day as Canadians as a special citizenship ceremony is being held at the Woodside National Historic Site at 2 o’clock.
But what about the fireworks?
First things first, when it comes to setting off fireworks on your own – there are rules. A list of these rules according to the city of Kitchener are available HERE as the city reminds residents of the importance of fireworks safety.
If however you would prefer to let someone else put on a show for you…you have several options.
They’ll be held at the University of Waterloo Columbia Lake Fields at around 10pm, although family events are taking place all day starting at 2.
In Cambridge, the country’s biggest Canada Day parade begins at one at King and Bishop Streets ending at Riverside Park where there will be more events leading up to fireworks at dusk.
A full day of Canada Day celebrations are planned at Scott Park on Hunter Street in New Hamburg starting at 10 with fireworks planned for 10 this evening.
Families can also visit the Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village to enjoy musical entertainment, croquet and horseshoes for free.
Joseph Schneider Haus on Queen Street South in Kitchener is open today from 10 until 5 with free admission.
The Township of Woolwich is offering a free swim at their memorial centre in Elmira and Gore Park will host an event with food and drink, music, activities for children and of course, Canada’s birthday cake.
This year Chicopee Tube Park is offering a “Fireworks” package. When you book a group of twelve for Zip Lining, two people get free Zip line access.
Michael Weinstein tells 570 News there is a large, professional display in Fergus on Canada Day at the Sportsplex on Belside Drive. Gates open at 6pm with a kiddie midway, food vendors, and live entertainment. Fireworks go at 10:00pm. That event is sponsored by the Township of Centre Wellington.
According to “The Record” those of you in Drayton can enjoy a fireworks display at the Drayton Fairgrounds and St. George is hosting a show at King William Park – both of those shows are expected to get underway around 10 o’clock. They also mentioned that the Crossroads Community Church in Harriston will also have a display beginning at dusk.
