Regional budget passes

The average homeowner will pay an extra $37 on the regional portion of their 2010 property tax bill.
Regional council has passed its budget, which includes a tax increase of 2.6%.
Finance Committee Chair Tom Galloway tells 570 News they tried to strike a balance between keeping the tax increase to a minimum while maintaining services.
Councillors did manage to make some broad cuts on the final day of deliberations, including about $350,000 from the roads budget.
The region is also adding another 13 staff members, many of them in transit, to beef up bus service.
The Police Services Board passed as is and includes adding 10 officers and 10 civilians, which is still far fewer than was initially proposed.
