The Waterloo Region Children’s Museum’s latest exhibition promises to open up a whole new “body” of information to the public.
The “Our Body: The Universe Within” exhibition features the human anatomy via real human bodies.
Programming Assistant, Christine Girardi, tells 570 News the “plasticated” human bodies are preserved by polymer impregnation, which turns the fats and liquids in the body into a silicon polymer.
And the bodies, and body parts, feature exposed anatomy, including one display that is just the circulatory system of the human foot and calf.
There is even a Prenatal display area — that one is sectioned off with a warning sign about the graphic content.
Girardi says for those who find the exhibition too disturbing, they can also check out the new “Germs, Germs, Germs!” exhibit opening January 22 as part of a series of health-themed exhibitions.
Girardi says Kitchener is the Canadian premier of the travelling exhibition, and it’s quite a coup for the city to beat out Toronto, Montreal, and other major centres.
The “Our Bodies” exhibition runs at the museum on King St. near Queen St. in downtown Kitchener until April 11.
