A Guelph high school closed its doors on Thursday after threats were lodged, and police say arrests have been made.
John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute was placed in hold and secure in the morning hours due to the investigation.
The high school said the decision was made to fully close the school to students and staff out of an abundance of caution.
“We understand this may be concerning, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as police work to resolve the situation,” said a message from Principal Chad Warren. “The safety and well-being of students and staff remains our top priority.”
Police confirmed they first learned of the threats on Wednesday night and they worked with OPP to carry out two search warrants outside the City of Guelph on Thursday morning.
A firearm was allegedly located during the searches and both a 17-year-old girl and 64-year-old man from Wellington County were arrested.
The pair are jointly charged with five counts each of uttering threats. The man is facing an additional charge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
Police said a 31-year-old Wellington County man was also arrested for unauthorized possession of a firearm but it’s not believed that he was involved with the school threats.
