Red Cross relief efforts are already en route to Haiti

The Canadian Red Cross has released $200,000 from its International Disaster Relief Fund in order to provide immediate support.
Karen Charles, Southwest Regional Manager for the Red Cross’ Disaster Management Program tells 570 News helping financially is of greatest benefit right now. She says survivors are in immediate need of essentials such as shelter, clothing and clean water. Providing those necessities, says Charles, can prevent more lives from being lost unnecessarily.
If you have relatives in the affected area and can’t reach them, Charles encourages you to call the Department of Foreign Affairs, not the Red Cross. The agency is already busy focusing on relief efforts. To reach Foreign Affairs, Charles says you can all 1-800-387-3124.
