A Butcher Shop in the Region is Reportedly Unsafe

Where are you getting your meat?

The city of Kitchener says a butcher shop that lost its license over public health violations is operating even though a court ordered it to stop.

A superior court judge has issued an injunction for Spreitzer’s Meats on Bedford road.

Kitchener’s Director of Legislative Services Randy Gosse says the city initially suspended the shop’s business license until the owner completed a food safety program.

However Gosse is under the impression that the owner did not receive the certification nor did he stay closed during the probation period.

Previous inspections of the shop turned up mould on meat, poor storage and cleanliness issues.

A lawyer representing the business will appear before a judge on Wednesday.
