Rangers goalie has more on his mind then hockey

KITCHENER – Hockey has suddenly become more than just a game for Mavric Parks. The Ranger goalie’s good friend and fellow hockey player, Michael Bennett, was killed in a car crash last Saturday — the night before Kitchener was to play in Guelph. Parks was also scheduled to start in goal against the Storm. But rather than let the tragedy bring him down, Parks used it as motivation.
He tells 570’s Don Cameron Show that he dedicated his game last Sunday to Bennett’s memory. He wrote Bennett’s initials on his game stick and will pass that stick onto his friend’s family. Parks would go on to make 33 saves in that 4-1 victory over Guelph. And he topped the weekend off with CHL Goalie of the Week honours. In two starts, Parks posted two wins and a goals against average of 1.00. His 67 saves over the two games left him with a save percentage of .971.
