Teen critically injured in Waterloo stabbing (update)

Waterloo Regional Police are investigating a stabbing that happened overnight in Waterloo.

It occurred near Edna Staebler Public School on Bernay Drive.

According to police, they received a report just before 5 a.m. Wednesday that a 17-year-old male had been taken to hospital with stab wounds.

Investigators say the stabbing took place in the area of Bernay Drive and St. Moritz Avenue, between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. They believe two males were confronted by a group of individuals, resulting in one being stabbed. They are working to identify a suspect(s), as well as a motive for the incident.

The victim was transported to a hospital outside of the region. He is listed in critical condition.

There will be a large police presence throughout the day as officers conduct a canvass of the area.

A police spokesperson also told CityNews 570, officers are looking to speak with the Good Samaritan who drove the victim and his friend to Grand River Hospital.
