Kitchener woman to represent Canada at competition in Saskatchewan

By Mark Pare

Add another accolade to the resume of Kitchener's Loren Gabel.

The fourth-year forward at Clarkson University (NCAA Division I) will represent Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup, being held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan November 6-11.

The Four Nations Cup will see women's teams from Canada, the United States, Sweden and Finland compete.

Canada is looking to improve on three straight silver medals at the tournament from 2015-2017.  Canada last won the competition in 2014.

Gabel, 21, is no stranger to the national side, though this will be her first foray at the Four Nations Cup.

Gabel also played for Canada at the National's Cup in Germany back in January.

Now, this news should come to no surprise to any one who has followed Gabel's career thus far.

The Communications major — with a minor in media design — has helped lead Clarkson to back-to-back NCAA national championships in 2017 and 2018, and was also a top three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2018, given annually to the best female university hockey player in the United States.
