What’s open and closed on New Year’s Day

By Erin Anderson

Goodbye 2018, hello 2019!

The arrival of the New Year means you should expect a slew of closures through Waterloo Region.

Most retail stores are closed on January 1, including the Cambridge Centre, and both Fairview Park and Conestoga Malls.

Local LCBO and Beer Store locations will be shut down, and Grand River Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule.

Regional Administrative Offices will also be closed on New Year's Day, but the Region of Waterloo International Airport will remain open.

Region of Waterloo Library branches will be closed, as are Regional Children's Centres until January 2.

There will be no curbside waste collection on New Year's Day, so have it out for crews on Wednesday.

You can also set out twice the regular amount of garbage bags/cans at your curb for collection.

All waste sites will be closed for residential drop-off on New Year's Day.
