Uptown Waterloo Market will now be a night time experience

By Divya Gill

After a successful 2020 summer open-air market, the Uptown Waterloo Business Improvement Area has announced a twist to their market plans this summer.

Starting next week on July 15th through to mid-September, the Uptown Night Market will be a night time event happening every Thursday from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. The event will be held at the Communitech Hub parking lot and will be weather permitting.

“The BIA is once again partnering with local vendors and businesses in offering the community an alfresco opportunity to visit Uptown and shop local foods, retail items, artisans and more,” said Tracy Van Kalsbeek, Executive Director of the Uptown Waterloo BIA.

Kalsbeek adds they decided to explore a night market because of the vibrancy happening on and around the Uptown patios with the added closures of Princess Street and Dominion Lane.

There will be COVID protocols in place. “Based on consultations with Public Health, the BIA will be managing and monitoring the number of vendors and visitors in the space. Folks can expect a very similar experience to when they go to Kitchener Market and the St. Jacobs Market. If we have the maximum amount of people in the space then people will need to line up.”

Parking for the night market can be found at the Dupont and Library lots. There are still a few spaces left for interested vendors. For more information about the Uptown Night Market click HERE
