A train warning sign at the Lancaster Rail Crossing in Kitchener has been temporarily removed due to ongoing construction in the area.
In a release, Metrolinx says the multi-train dynamic warning sign was taken down to allow access to nearby infrastructure work.
“As the sign is situated on CN-owned property, the decision to temporarily remove it supports their ability to carry out necessary work in the area,” read the release.
The sign in question is at the north-east corner of the rail crossing near Victoria Street North, with the other three warning signs disconnected.
The signs are still in good working condition, installed back in 2021.
All of the standard static signage is not impacted and will remain in place.

Another safety measure put in place during the construction, has those living and working in the area hearing significantly more train whistles.
“During this time, residents may notice an increase in train horn use (whistling) as a precautionary measure to alert pedestrians and road users of oncoming trains,” said Metrolinx.
“We understand that increased noise may be disruptive to residents in the area. This is a temporary measure undertaken out of an abundance of caution to keep the public safe while work is completed, and signage is reinstalled.”
Metrolinx says the signs are expected to remain disconnected for a few weeks, asking all pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to take extra caution when passing through the rail crossing.
