Two arrested after gunshots reported in Waterloo’s university district

Two young men are now in custody, arrested in connection with an early morning shooting in Waterloo’s university district.

It was around 3:30 a.m. on Friday when police responded to reported gunshots in the area of University Avenue East and Marsland Drive.

Police said that officers arrived on scene at a complex in the area, confirmed shots had been fired, and located two suspects. No physical injuries have been reported as a result of the shooting.

A 15-year-old and 25-year-old, both males, have been arrested for numerous weapons offences.

Those charges include:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Reckless discharge of firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of weapon contrary to prohibition order

Police investigators have said they believe the shooting was a targeted incident.

Officers are expected to remain in the area as the investigation continues.
