Aiming to reduce risk of fire due to continuing dry and hot weather, an Open Burn Ban has been issued for the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot & Woolwich – effective immediately.
That ban applies to the open burning of materials like wood, cardboard, tree limbs, garden waste and more – but does not include recreational fires, barbecues or campfire which do not exceed 61 cm by 61 cm.
Township staff note that conditions are extremely dry, and that all precautions should be taken to prevent fire spread.
While some portions of the townships have received rainfall in the last week, staff said that conditions in brush, grass and wheat field stubble still remain dry.
The ban is expected to remain in effect until further notice – with fines in place for those found to be in violation. The ban also applies to those with Open Burn Permits.
