IKEA to open ‘plan and order’ store in Kitchener

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

IKEA Canada will expand its plan and order point network into Kitchener this fall.

On Tuesday, the company announced plans to put a 'plan and order' store on Fairway Road South. It will be located next to State & Main.

Customers will be able to book an appointment with an IKEA specialist to plan and order complex home furnishing solutions for any room in their home.

Purchases can then be delivered to their home or picked up at an IKEA pick-up location, including 259 Gage Avenue in Kitchener.

“The IKEA plan and order point is one of the many ways we're transforming our business to deliver new customer touchpoints and locally relevant home furnishing services that better meet the everyday needs of Canadians in an affordable way,” Eri Mathy, country business development manager for IKEA Canada, explained in a news release.

It's expected the store will have between 12 and 20 employees. An IKEA spokesperson said they will welcome a mix of new and existing employees to the new Kitchener location.

The company previously had a pick-up store in Kitchener (Gateway Park Drive), which closed in January 2020.

It was one of five Ontario locations that were part of a global test program for IKEA, to learn how their customers want to shop in new retail formats.
