Flair Airlines announces expansion plans

By Divya Gill

Flair Airlines is known for its ultra-low air fair prices attracting travellers to travel more. The airline has now come out with its expansion plans.

The airline started with three aircraft last year, and now it plans to have 30 aircraft by the middle of 2023.

“We have had great success to date. Our model of producing low airfares to get people travelling has been successful. It has been successful in Kitchener, so we will keep moving forward with that plan.” Matt Kuntz, Vice-President Flair Airlines, said.

Flair Airlines recently added another destination to fly out of Region of Waterloo International Airport, that being Deer Lake, Newfoundland. Kuntz said flying out of Waterloo Region has been far better than expected.

“It is an essential base for us. We have had high hopes and great expectations from Kitchener and the region. The people have responded, and the flights have been doing well. It is probably the best performing base in the country.

Additionally, Kuntz said from an operational and commercial point of view, the airline should have between three and four aircraft, which they already have. “Waterloo airport has proven itself as a great option for us, and we will be there for the long term.”

The Canadian Transportation Agency is currently reviewing Flair Airlines and its leasing contracts. While the CTA has its processes, Kuntz said they are entirely open and transparent.

“We are not concerned at all that there will be any findings that imply that we are not meeting those regulations.”

Currently, the airline flies to over 30 locations within Canada. They also have a flight going to Fort Lauderdale, and in February, there will be flights to Cancun. Kuntz adds there will possibly be an additional destination in the future, and those details will be released later.
