Another severe thunderstorm could hit Waterloo Region following the brief but intense system that rolled through on Canada Day.
Environment Canada first issued a yellow severe thunderstorm watch for Waterloo Region on Thursday.
A severe thunderstorm warning followed shortly after but was lifted about an hour later, while the watch remained in effect.
The national weather agency said conditions were favourable for storm activity in the afternoon and evening hours.
Strong winds were expected to be the main threat as gusts could reach up to 100 km/h. There’s also the potential for large hail and more than 30 mm of rainfall.
It follows Wednesday’s severe thunderstorm that led to damage and impacted some Canada Day events.
An orange heat warning also remains in effect as Waterloo Region continues to be gripped by extreme heat and humidity.
