Cambridge suspect from Pearson gold heist spending more than 10 years in U.S. jail

A man from Cambridge accused of being one of the conspirators from the Pearson Airport gold heist is going to spend more than 10 years in jail in the U.S. — but not because of the gold.
According to a news release from the United States Department of Justice, Durante King-Mclean, 27, has been sentenced to 160 months in prison for trying to smuggle dozens of guns into Canada.
Millions of dollars worth of gold was stolen from the Air Canada cargo terminal at Pearson in April 2023, and American authorities said King-Mclean entered the U.S. shortly after the robbery.
They said he lived at an Airbnb in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., until the following September, when he rented a vehicle and was caught in Pennsylvania with 65 handguns in the trunk.
Authorities said King-Mclean was smuggling the guns into Canada, with each weapon concealed in a sock.
The release said two of those guns were fully automatic, 11 were stolen, and one had an obliterated serial number.
It also said King-Mclean ran away on foot from the Sept. 2 traffic stop, but was caught after a brief foot chase.
He pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to illegally traffic firearms in May of last year.
His sentence of 10 years and 4 months has nothing to do with the gold heist.
The release makes no mention of King-Mclean possibly being extradited to Canada to face charges for that crime.
