Police investigating distraction theft against elderly man in Waterloo

Waterloo regional police are investigating after an elderly man in Waterloo had jewellery stolen from his neck on Monday afternoon.

According to the police service, the incident took place in the parking lot of Costco on Erb Street West just after 12 p.m.

A man and a woman approached the 85-year-old man in the parking lot, started talking to him, and while in conversation, the woman stole a necklace that the victim was wearing. The pair of suspects then left in a white SUV.

The victim wasn’t injured in the interaction.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward by contacting police at 519-570-9777, extension 6399.
