Special weather statement lifted for gusty winds across Waterloo Region

A special weather statement has been lifted for Waterloo Region as high winds blew through the area Tuesday.

Environment Canada said northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h would hit the region through Tuesday evening and continuing overnight with some isolated gusts of 80 km/hr.

Power outages were possible due to the high winds. The winds tapered off by early Wednesday morning.

It comes after a messy morning commute Tuesday with a winter clipper bringing four to eight centimetres of snow.

A milder shift in conditions is expected through Christmas Day.
