Police investigate online threats that closed Cambridge high school

École Secondaire Catholique Père-René-de-Galinée in Cambridge was closed on Wednesday due to a police investigation into online threats.
The Maple Grove Road school posted on its social media channels that the closure was a precautionary measure to ensure staff and student safety.
An initial statement sent to 570 NewsRadio from the school’s board, Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir, said a “serious situation” was being investigated by police.
The French Catholic school board later confirmed administration was notified Tuesday night a threatening message was sent to “certain members of the school community” on social media, so police were alerted and the decision was made to close Père-René-de-Galinée as a precaution.
“No risks will be taken with regard to the safety of students and staff, either inside the school or on school buses,” the board said.
Waterloo regional police also confirmed that investigators are looking into a threat of harm that was made against the school but no further information was immediately available.
Wednesday evening, board officials confirmed to 570 NewsRadio the school would reopen on Thursday.
“All necessary checks have been carried out and the police have confirmed that there is no risk to the safety of students and staff.”
All transportation services are also back to normal Thursday.
