Elmira man charged in child pornography investigation

An investigation that began earlier this month has now led to child pornography charges for an Elmira man.
Waterloo regional police report that the investigation began back in August, helmed by the service’s Cybercrime Branch – Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.
As recently as Thursday, police say that suspect was arrested.
The 46-year-old from Elmira has been charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, held in custody for a bail hearing.
Regional police have since reminded the public that anyone suspecting online child exploitation is encouraged to contact them at 519-570-9777. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers.
Over in Guelph, a similar arrest was made on Wednesday – resulting in several charges for a 77-year-old man.
Police in the Royal City say their ICE unit executed a search warrant in Guelph’s west end back on July 30, seizing several devices related to an ongoing investigation.
On Wednesday, Guelph Police arrested that 77-year-old – he now faces charges of Possession of Child Pornography, scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23.
