Regional police recover three of four stolen semi-trucks

Waterloo regional police continue to investigate after four semi-trucks were stolen from a business in North Dumfries.

The trucks were stolen from the area of Piper Street in the township on July 12 by an unknown number of suspects.

Thanks to the assistance of the Halton Regional Police Service and Peel Regional Police, three of the stolen trucks have been recovered.

The search continues for the fourth truck. Police have not indicated if arrests have been made, and did not specify where the vehicles were recovered from.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BEVT Team investigators at 519-570-9777, extension 8255. Anonymous tips can also be provided through Waterloo Crime Stoppers.

Police are recommending truck owners take precautions to avoid theft:

  • Block the access to the onboard diagnostic port to prevent thieves from reprogramming the vehicle’s key fob or purchase an aftermarket immobilizer.
  • Use a steering wheel locking device to deter theft.
  • When not in use, place the vehicle key fob inside a radio frequency shielding bag/pouch to block cell signals.
  • Consider equipping your vehicle with an aftermarket Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker
  • Consider installing a wired camera system and audible alarm, as subjects are known to carry devices that can jam wireless cameras.
  • Ensure all keys are accounted for and never left in the vehicle or unattended.
  • Those looking to purchase a vehicle can also visit the Équité Association website (www.equiteassociation.com) to view a list of the top 10 most stolen vehicles.
  • If you believe you are being followed in your vehicle contact Police to report the behavior or attend the closest Police station.
  • If you observe suspicious people in your neighbourhood looking into vehicles, contact police immediately. This will assist investigators in tracking patterns of criminal behaviour and potentially identifying suspects.

Report any crimes in progress to 9-1-1.
