Anishnabeg Outreach, a local Indigenous non-profit, is scaling back a program that sees household essentials delivered to families across Waterloo Region and Guelph.
The group’s Spirit Bundle program, originally launched as a COVID-19 pandemic response to support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis families, has evolved significantly over the past several years.
Today, the program supporting over 500 families is winding down deliveries and changing to pick-up only as of August 1.
A social media post by Anishnabeg Outreach says the difficult decision is due to funding constraints.
“We’re committed to continuing this support with dignity and care. Thank you for your understanding and continued support, and for treating our driver with respect during this transition.”
Those using the program can still benefit from the donations of food, clothing, household items, and baby supplies, they’ll just have to stop by the locations in Kitchener, Cambridge and Guelph.
