Another round of significant snowy weather is expected throughout the weekend and municipalities across Waterloo Region are gearing up for the conditions.
Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Waterloo Region, with the Region of Waterloo officially declaring a significant weather event for 4 p.m. on Saturday. The City of Cambridge preemptively issued both a significant weather event and a snow event Saturday morning.
The City of Waterloo has said its significant weather event will be declared Saturday night at midnight.
On-street parking will not be allowed until the snow event is lifted. Any drivers who don’t adhere to the parking ban will have their vehicle ticketed, towed, or both.
“It may take longer than usual to restore roads and sidewalks to regular winter operating conditions,” reads a notice from the City of Cambridge. “Please be cautious if travelling during this event.”
Forecasters predict between 20 and 40 cm of accumulation by the end of the weekend. That’s on top of the 20 cm of snow that fell during a mid-week snowstorm.
