Lake effect system blows bursts of heavy snow on Waterloo Region

A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Waterloo Region as lake-effect bands of snow pelts the area.

The region could see as much as 10 cm of snow throughout the day, with winds gusting up to 70 km/h.

“Prepare for changing weather conditions through the morning, quick bursts of heavier snow at times for us and falling temperatures throughout the day,” explained 570’s Meteorologist Jill Taylor. “It’s going to get a lot colder as we head into the afternoon.”

The winter weather has led to a string of school bus cancellations for some of the region’s townships.

Snowfall is expected to clear as the day progresses into night, and by tomorrow, it’ll be clear skies with a high of 1 C.
