It was close but no cigar for a would-be criminal in Kitchener as their robbery attempt was foiled by a locked door.
A male suspect wearing a costume mask allegedly tried to hold up a gas station at knifepoint, but he was stopped when he realized the doors to the business were already locked for the night.
This happened Tuesday around 3:30 a.m. in the Margaret Avenue and Guelph Street area.
Staff were inside when the attempted robber’s plans were impeded, and he then brandished a knife at them — before leaving.
The employees called police who responded to the scene and arrested a suspect not far from the gas station.
An 18-year-old from Kitchener is facing various robbery and weapons charges.
