Assault in Waterloo believed to be hate-motivated

An assault in Waterloo is believed to be hate-motivated and police are investigating.

According to Waterloo Regional Police, two victims were walking in the Regina Street North area around 2 a.m. on Wednesday when they were approached by an unknown male.

It’s alleged the suspect started yelling “derogatory sexual language” at the victims, followed them toward King Street, and assaulted them.

The suspect fled on foot after the assault.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who was in the area, or has any information on the assault, is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
