A winning weekend for your Kitchener Rangers.
First a 6-2 romping against the Erie Otters on Friday, wrapping up with a 4-2 final against Ottawa at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Sunday.
Defenceman Matthew Andonovski got the first star of the game, thanks to a big goal to open up the scoring in the first period.
570’s Colour Commentator Paul Fixter said it set the tone for the game.
“You don’t expect that from a defensive minded defenceman, it was great goal, his fourth of the year, so he’s climbing up the ranks there … he also had an assist, he factored in to this four goal win.”
Also on the scoresheet, Filip Mešár.
Fixter said those big players show up at big times, and that is exactly what Mešár accomplished, when the game was tied 2-2 late in the third.
“He is goal scorer, he is an offensive player, and tonight he delivered in that regard, scoring the big game winning goal, and then the insurance goal with the empty net goal … he’s a real fun, creative player, he is showing why he was drafted in the first round by the Montreal Canadiens.”
Setting up a fresh win streak, Fixter noted Sunday’s “W” marks the third win in a row for the Kitchener Rangers.
“Yeah they were tired, but they pushed back in the third period … and Kitchener found a way to win in the last ten minutes of the third period. Full credit to Ottawa, they are going to be a force in the East and Kitchener got the better of them.”
Next up for the Rangers. they face off against rivals Guelph on Wednesday.
