Kitchener’s Chris Ernst part of gold medal cycling team at Pan Am Games

Kitchener’s Chris Ernst has won a gold medal at the Pan Am Games.

Canada beat Colombia in the gold medal final of the men’s Team Pursuit event in track cycling on Friday in Santiago.

Ernst was part of Canada’s team that included Michael Foley, Carson Mattern, Sean Richardson and Campbell Parish.

Before the event, the 24-year-old shared with CityNews 570 his hopes of winning gold in the event.

In the final, Canada caught Colombia in the final lap with a time of 3:53.593 which is a new Pan Am record.

Ernst also finished fifth in the men’s Madison event with Foley.
