A new public elementary school in south Kitchener is getting some provincial approvals and funding support.

The Ford government has written a cheque for $25 million dollars for the Waterloo Region District School Board as part of their $15 billion investment over 10 years to support school construction, repair, and renewal. It’s also pushing plans forward with the approval to issue the tender.

The new south Kitchener elementary school, that will rise in Doon South, will be home to 591 students as well as 49 licensed childcare spaces.

Minister of Education Stephen Lecce called the new school at 670 Thomas Slee Drive “state-of-the art”.

“We are determined to build schools and expansions faster, part of our commitment to modernize schools in fast growing communities,” said Lecce in a news release. “We are proud to deliver a new, state-of-the-art south Kitchener elementary school for local families, along with increasing funding, staffing and tutoring to help ensure students graduate with confidence that they can succeed in good-paying careers.”
