A convicted killer from Waterloo Region went missing from his release program for five days, and police need to know what he was doing during that time.
Christopher Watts, 66, was arrested in Hamilton on Tuesday after he disappeared from a halfway house in Montreal on June 4. Halton Regional Police earlier that day had spotted a vehicle registered to Watts in Burlington.
A statement from the service describes Watts as “a high-risk registered sex offender.”
Watts was convicted of the death of a 13-year-old girl at Puslinch Lake in 2001, and according to police, he’s been under a long-term supervision order ever since his prison sentence.
Police said Watts served a 12-year prison sentence for manslaughter, sexual assault, and sexual interference.

Halton police investigators are working to find out what Watts was doing in the five days between his escape from the halfway house and his arrest.
After Watts disappeared this month, police said he was wanted on a Canada-Wide warrant and was unlawfully at large.
Anyone who knows anything about him is urged to call Halton police at 905-825-4777, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by clicking here.
