New Market Trail now open

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Residents of Waterloo Region can now enjoy a new trail.

The Market Trail is a 1.5 kilometre multi-use trail. It runs along the regionally-owned rail corridor between Northfield Drive in Waterloo and Farmer's Market Road in Woolwich.

The project received funding from all three levels of government, with the federal government kicking in the most at over $1.12 million. There was another $2.85 million from the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund and Trans-Canada Trail for the design and construction of Stage 1.

The official opening ceremony will happen Thursday at 9:30 a.m. on the portion of the trail next to the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market. Members of regional council are scheduled to attend.
