Region to begin public consultation on proposed roundabout on Roseville Road

The Region of Waterloo will begin the public consultation phase for a planned roundabout at the intersection of Dickie Settlement Road and Roseville Road in North Dumfries township.
The intersection lies on a popular route for residents of Cambridge to get to the south end of Kitchener, past Whistle Bear Golf Course and through Blair.
The region says a roundabout is preferable for the rural intersection, currently served by temporary traffic signals, because it “provides a superior level of service, fewer serious collisions and fatalities, and generates fewer green house gas emissions than a traffic signal.”
A report going to the region's committee of the whole next week, says considerations about safety performance, traffic capacity and total life cycle costing has led staff to conclude a three leg, single lane roundabout would result in fewer injury collisions, lower speeds and fewer delays to motorists than the existing traffic signals.
Other roundabouts the region has constructed on rural rural roads used by agricultural equipment and commercial trucks haven't generated any concerns, the report states.
The route is frequented by gravel trucks travelling from pits located throughout the township.
Staff will post project information on the Region of Waterloo's Engage website for public input.
The Engage website will be active for 30 days starting Jan. 12.
