Ford announces LCBO will be removing American products from shelves

Premier Doug Ford has announced that LCBO locations across the province will be removing American products from their shelves.

The announcement was posted on X, where Ford stated that the changes would go into effect on Tuesday, Feb. 4, pointing to other Ontario-made and Canadian-made products.

“Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits, and seltzers. Not anymore,” said Ford.

The decision follows the recently developing economic hostilities between Canada and the U.S., with President Donald Trump instituting a 25 per cent tariff on Canada and Mexico, along with a 10 per cent tariff on China.

In response, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced retaliatory tariffs of 25 per cent on $30 billion in American goods beginning on Tuesday, with another $125 billion in duties following later in February.

“As the only wholesaler of alcohol in the province, LCBO will also remove American products from its catalogue so other Ontario-based restaurants and retailers can’t order or restock U.S. products,” mentioned Ford.

President Trump previously threatened the possibility of additional tariffs if Canada retaliated in any way.
