It's a day to celebrate some amazing women in our community and around the world.

Tuesday, February 11th marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The list is too long to mention every local connection to an accomplished female in that field, but some of our local schools are highlighting a few.

This includes the University of Waterloo which has released a forty-five second video featuring female scientists that have gone through their institution.

The women highlighted in the video include:

Melanie Campbell  – Waterloo Professor developing devices for the eye to improve the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease

Katarina Ilic – Co-Founder and Director of Partnerships at Voltera

Pearl Sullivan –  The First female Dean of Engineering at the University of Waterloo

Greta Cutulenco – CEO of Acerta and name on Forbes Top 30 Under 30 in 2019

Pampa Dey – Overcame insurmountable barriers to become an assistant professor in Canada

Lisa Feldman Barrett – Guggenheim Fellow and neuroscientist reasearching emotion in the brain

Donna Strickland –  Waterloo Professor in Physics and Astronomy. Nobel Prize in Physics 2018
