A new, familiar name is now running to replace Andrew Scheer as the leader of the federal Conservative Party.
Jim Karahalios, a Cambridge lawyer and businessman, announced his bid Tuesday morning with the campaign slogan “The Right Way Forward,” suggesting he's running to the right of candidates Peter MacKay and Erin O'Toole “who are in the 'red Tory' wing of the party.”
“We don't need another career politician to lead our Conservative Party to yet another defeat,” Karahalios says, “We need a fighter with a track record of winning against all odds. That's why I am running.”
Karahalios is a familar name in Conservative circles.
He's been a thorn in the side of former Ontario PC leader Patrick Brown with his “Axe the Carbon Tax” and “Take Back Our PC Party” campaigns.
His wife Belinda, is the current PC MPP for Cambridge.
