OHIP changes come into effect

Changes to health care coverage take effect Tuesday, as the province reduces the number of procedures covered by OHIP.
As of Tuesday, some procedures deemed medically unnecessary are no longer covered by OHIP.
The province and a group of doctors unveiled a list of 11 updates to the program two months ago, cutting coverage for things like urine pregnancy tests, MRIs for minor joint pain and ear wax removal.
As of January 2020, Ontarians are no longer eligible for up to $400 per day for out-of-country hospital care under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.
The change was made because 90 per cent of travellers who fall ill abroad already have some type of private medical insurance.
