Sprucedale Crescent: One Year Later (4 photos)

By Mark Pare

A tragic anniversary in Kitchener.

It was one year ago Thursday that a massive house explosion on Sprucedale Crescent shook the region to the core.

The blast on August 22, 2018 could be heard from many kilometres away, and caused three fires.

It left 58-year old Edra Haan dead, and her husband Udo severely injured.

Police deemed it a criminal investigation, and would eventually charge Udo in connection with the blast, as well as Edra's death.

Udo is still going through the courts, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for sometime in September.

In the wake of the blast, a neighbour Brock Greenhalgh launched a GoFundMe campaign to bring benches into the neighbourhood to promote unity.

They had a $5,000 goal, which was quickly achieved.
