Canada Post has issued new stamps, which feature five bridges from across the country and one of those bridges is in Waterloo Region.
You will soon see the West Montrose Covered Bridge featured on a stamp.
Also known as “the kissing bridge”, it's the last remaining historic covered bridge in the province, which crosses the Grand River.
The 60-metre bridge opened in 1881 and is still pretty much true to its original design, but steel and concrete parts were added later to increase its lifespan.
Scenes from 2017 horror film “It”, based a Stephen King novel, were filmed around the bridge.
Other bridges that will be featured include Quebec's Powerscourt (Percy) Bridge and Félix-Gabriel-Marchand Bridge, the Hartland Covered Bridge in New Brunswick and Ashnola No. 1 Bridge in British Columbia.
“The issue pays tribute to their engineering and design and their role in transportation, but it also recognizes them as important symbols of community life in rural Canada.” said a release.
At the end of the 19th century, Canada had over 1,400 covered bridges; today an estimated 140 remain.
