Officials estimate $30,000 in damage after crash involving ION train

By Erin Anderson

It won't be a cheap fix after last week's crash between a minivan and an ION train in Kitchener.

The incident occurred on May 31 at the intersection of Duke Street West and Water Street North.

Police say two people in the van suffered minor injuries, while the ION driver was not injured.

Waterloo Regional Police charged the driver of the minivan with several offences, including failing to stop for a red light.

Officials with the Region of Waterloo say $30,000 is the current preliminary damage estimate.

It adds its still determining finals costs, and a more concrete update is expected by the end of this week.
