By Maddie Demarte

The long-awaited LRT will be up and running soon, and with that comes a number of changes to bus stops and routes alike.

The first of two information sessions takes place tomorrow, at four different ION stations across the region.

On Friday, May 3:

-Research and Technology: 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

-Allen: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

-Central Station: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

-Mill: 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On Saturday, May 11:

-Conestoga: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

-Laurier-Waterloo Park: 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

-Victoria Park: 2:00 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.

-Kitchener Market: 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Peter Zinck, Director of Transit Services for Grand River Transit, says the education days will be very helpful in understanding how to navigate the new GRT.

“We'll have staff on-site to explain our upcoming service changes for when ION launches, and how bus routes will connect with ION, and also to explain about the EasyGO fare card,” he says. “It'll be a great opportunity to see the train, you can check out our fare vending machines, you can get an EasyGO card there on the platform, and learn more about the service.”

You can find a link to GRT's page explaining the education days here.

Zinck also mentioned GRT is experiencing technical issues with the EasyGO fare cards.

Users have not been able to refill their cards using credit and some interac cards.

GRT is working to correct this problem.

According to Zinck, if you are unable to load your card due to credit card issues, tap your card on the farebox and you will be allowed to ride.
